Jockey Samyn sidelined after losing fingers
March 2, 2011NEW YORK (AP) - Jockey Jean-Luc Samyn will be sidelined for a month after cutting off two fingers and breaking another in a snowblower accident at his home in New York.
The 54-year-old rider was unclogging the machine on Feb. 21 with the power turned off when the blade moved and cut off two-thirds of the index and middle fingers on his right hand. He also broke the ring finger on his right hand in the accident.
Samyn hopes to return to riding in late March or early April. He says he's fortunate that the accident wasn't worse.
The native of France has won 2,611 races in his 36-year career and more than 110 stakes victories in New York.
