NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Mucho Macho Man took another step toward a start in the Kentucky Derby by winning the $300,000 Risen Star Stakes by 1 1-2 lengths on Saturday at Fair Grounds Race Course.

Sent off at odds of 7-2 under jockey Rajiv Maragh, the 3-year-old son of Macho Uno tracked along in second outside pacesetter Decisive Moment.

He made his move heading into the final turn. Santiva, at odds of 6-1, closed but could not pass the winner. Rogue Romance, the 2-1 favorite in the field of 10, finished third.

Mucho Macho Man ran the 1 1-16 miles in 1:43.98 on the fast track in New Orleans.

Mucho Macho Man paid $9.20, $4.80, and $2.80 while Santiva paid $6 and $3.40 and Rogue Romance returned $2.60.
