Horse track at Hot Springs cancels Thursday card
February 3, 2011HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (AP) - Winter weather has claimed another day of racing at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs.
The cancellation of Thursday's races is the third time the thoroughbred track has had to call off racing this season, including a one-day delay of its opening day.
Nearly 3 inches of rain fell between Monday night and Tuesday at Oaklawn and temperatures have not been above freezing since Tuesday afternoon.
Racing general manager David Longinotti says the frozen track made it impossible for maintenance crews to prepare the surface for racing Thursday. Longinotti adds that horsemen and stewards agreed that cancellation of the day's program was the right thing to do.
Racing is scheduled to resume Friday.
