SANTA ANITA, Calif. (AP) - Lea the Punisher prevailed over 2-1 favorite Makoma by a neck to win the $57,136 Azeri Purse for older fillies and mares on Friday at Santa Anita.

Ridden by Alonso Quinonez, Lea the Punisher covered 1 1-16 miles on dirt in 1:42.20 and paid $8.60, $4.80 and $3.20.

Makoma returned $4.20 and $3, while Gumption paid $3 to show.

The victory, worth $33,600, increased Lea the Punisher's career earnings to $88,800.
