Keeneland to hand out $3.4 million in purses
January 20, 2011LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Keeneland will begin its 75th season by offering over $3.4 million in purses for the spring meet's 16 stakes races.
The meet, which runs from April 8-29, will feature the $750,000 Blue Grass Stakes. It's one of the major prep races for the Kentucky Derby.
The track will host three other Grade 1 races, including the $400,000 Ashland for 3-year-old fillies on April 9 and the $300,000 Maker's Mark Mile on April 15.
The purse for the Lexington Stakes has been dropped from $300,000 to $200,000 this spring. The race is one of the final Derby preps.
The track will hand out more than $600,000 in daily purses, making it one of North America's richest meets.
