Tapizar wins Sham at Santa Anita, looks to Derby
January 15, 2011ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) - Tapizar pulled away from Clubhouse Ride for a 41/4-length victory in the $100,000 Sham Stakes on Saturday at Santa Anita, giving trainer Steve Asmussen an early contender for the Kentucky Derby.
Ridden by Garrett Gomez, Tapizar ran 1 1-16 miles in 1:40.38.
Tapizar earned $60,000 for the win, his second in five starts, and paid $4.20, $2.80 and $2.10. Clubhouse Ride returned $3.40 and $2.20, and Anthony's Cross paid $2.60 to show.
