Out-of-retirement Square Eddie wins at Santa Anita
January 15, 2011ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) - Square Eddie came out of retirement after more than a year and won for the first time in more than two years in the $59,000 Phone Trick Purse on Friday at Santa Anita.
The 5-year-old under jockey Joel Rosario took the lead early and scored a dominating 3 1/4-length victory over Stacy's Hope and five other opponents, setting a Santa Anita dirt track record at 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:13.11.
The winner paid $7, $4.20 and $4.20. Stacy' Hope paid $4.60 and $4.60. Long shot Feisty Suances was third and paid $15 to show. The favorite, Moonlark, was fourth.
