NEW YORK (AP) - Former New York Racing Association executive Philip Dunn has died. He was 81.

Dunn was the executive director of simulcast and TV systems when he retired in 1995. He joined NYRA in 1961 and worked in public relations and advertising before leaving eight years later for management positions at thoroughbred auction firm Fasig-Tipton and Meadowlands Racetrack.

Dunn returned to the organization in 1986 as executive director of product development, responsible for securing out-of-state simulcast contracts.

The NYRA said he died Monday. A native of Brooklyn, Dunn graduated from Fordham University in 1951 and earned an MBA from Columbia University in 1953. He served four years in the U.S. Navy, retiring in 1956 as a lieutenant.
