Unzip Me takes Monrovia Stakes at Santa Anita
January 3, 2011ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) - Heavy favorite Unzip Me led from gate-to-wire to win the $100,000 Monrovia Stakes on Sunday at Santa Anita.
Ridden by Rafael Bejarano, Unzip Me went straight to the front of the field of six fillies and mares, led by a length for most of the race and extended the lead to 1 1/4 lengths at the finish, covering 6 1/2 furlongs on Santa Anita's downhill turf course in 1:12.72.
The winner paid $3.40, $2.40 and $2.20. Broken Dreams was second and paid $4.20 and $3.20. Rebas is Tops paid $4.40 to show.
A 5-year-old chestnut mare trained by Martin Jones for owner and breeder Harris Farms, Unzip Me has won 10 of 17 career starts, eight of 12 on turf and four of five over the downhill at Santa Anita.
She earned $60,000 for Sunday's win, taking her career total to $643,513.
