Ultra Blend wins Cat's Cradle at Hollywood
December 13, 2010INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) - Ultra Blend rallied to beat Word Association by 31/4 lengths Sunday in the $80,400 Cat's Cradle Handicap for fillies and mares at Hollywood Park.
Ridden by Joel Rosario, Ultra Blend ran 71/2 furlongs in 1:29.76 and paid $4.60, $2.60 and $2.20. Word Association returned $4.60 and $3.80, and Warren's Jitterbug paid $4.
A 4-year-old California-bred filly trained by Art Sherman, Ultra Blend has won seven of 17 career starts and has been worse than third only twice. She earned $50,400 on Sunday, taking her career total to $367,646.
"She just tries all the time," Rosario said. "She never quits and she loves to run. She's a little filly, but she can run."
Sherman said Ultra Blend's next start will likely be one of two races in the Sunshine Millions at Santa Anita next month.
