Turbulent Descent wins Hollywood Starlet
December 12, 2010INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) - Turbulent Descent remained undefeated with a 11/4-length victory in the $412,250 Hollywood Starlet on Saturday at Hollywood Park.
Ridden by David Flores, Turbulent Descent ran 1 1-16 miles on the synthetic Cushion Track in 1:44.18 and paid $4.20, $3.20 and $2.20. Big Tiz returned $17.60 and $5.40, while Tell a Kelly was another 11/4 lengths back in third and paid $2.60.
Turbulent Descent has won all three of her starts and earned $328,350.
"She's just a real good filly and she's got a great, promising future ahead of her," trainer Mike Puype said. "She won just as easily as she did the other two times. No question about it. She's very impressive."
Turbulent Descent will be given a couple months off before making her 2011 debut.
In the $71,706 Miles Tyson Stakes, Cost of Freedom set a Cushion Track record for five furlongs with a winning time of 56.14 seconds. Ridden by Joe Talamo, Cost of Freedom won by 41/4 lengths and paid $2.80 and $2.10. The California-bred gelding won his third in a row at Hollywood Park.
Quick Enough returned $2.40, and Square Deal was third.
Trainer Mel Stute earned his 2,000th career victory when 25-1 longshot Score for Fun led all the way in winning the first race by 53/4 lengths. The winner is owned and bred by Stute's wife, Annabelle.
Stute, 83, won the 1986 Preakness with Snow Chief and has two Breeders' Cup victories since saddling his first winner in 1947 at Portland Meadows.
