Aggie Engineer wins Native Diver at Hollywood Park
December 5, 2010INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) -Aggie Engineer led all the way to win the $100,000 Native Diver Handicap at Hollywood Park on Saturday.
Ridden by Joseph Talamo, Aggie Engineer was at the front of the field of seven older horses by three lengths at the top of the stretch and held on without trouble to beat Spurrier by 1 3/4 lengths, covering 1 1-8 miles in 1:51.04.
Aggie Engineer, a 5-year-old gelding trained by Paddy Gallagher, paid $8, $4.60 and $3.20. Spurrier paid $8.20 and $5.20. Another Gallagher trainee, Soul Candy, was a half-length back in third and paid $3.40 to show.
The favorite, Dakota phone, was never closer than third and finished fourth.
