NEW YORK (AP) -Jersey Town, a 35-1 long shot, held off Haynesfield by a head Saturday in the $250,000 Cigar Mile Aqueduct.

Cornelio Velasquez was aboard for trainer Barclay Tagg as the 4-year-old earned his first stakes victory. He improved to 5 for 11 with a determined effort against a field that included four horses who ran in the Breeders' Cup earlier this month.

The time was 1:34.43 on the fast track.

Jersey Town paid $71.50, $25.80 and $9.50. Haynesfield, the Jockey Club Gold Cup winner at Belmont Park, returned $6.60 and $4.70. Girolamo paid $3.10.

In other stakes action:

No Such Word, the 9-5 favorite, beat Awesome Maria by 2 1/2 lengths in the $250,000 Gazelle for fillies and mares.

To Honor and Serve, the 3-5 choice, rolled to a third straight win in the $200,000 Remsen for 2-year-olds. He beat Mucho Macho Man by two lengths.

Dixie City, the 9-5 second choice, cruised to a 3 1/4-length win over Believe in A.P., the even-money favorite, in the $200,000 Demoiselle for 2-year-old fillies.

Before the stakes began, jockey Jason Gracia was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit at Jamaica Hospital for treatment of a concussion after a spill in the third race. Jose Bermudez, also involved, underwent testing for sore ribs.

Ryan and Jack stumbled and fell on the far turn, throwing Gracia to the turf. October Dreams collided with Ryan and Jack as he was on the ground, unseating Bermudez.

October Dreams appeared to be uninjured. Ryan and Jack, a 4-year-old gelding, suffered a skull fracture and was euthanized.
