Report: No code violation in Ohio raceway fire
November 25, 2010COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -Officials say there's no evidence that fire codes were violated when an Ohio raceway barn caught fire in December, killing two groomsmen and more than 40 horses.
In a report released Wednesday, interim State Fire Marshal Donald Cooper says he does not recommend any criminal or administrative charges in the Dec. 5 fire at the Warren County Fairgrounds in southwest Ohio, home to the Lebanon Raceway.
The groomsmen are believed to have been sleeping at the time of the fire. The fire marshal's report says there's insufficient evidence to find that the barn was occupied in violation of fire codes or that any violations caused the fire or help it spread.
The report also says the nature of the fire is undetermined and that there is no indication of arson.
