Premier Pegasus takes Hollywood Prevue Stakes
November 21, 2010INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) -Undefeated Premier Pegasus led wire-to-wire in the $100,000 Hollywood Prevue Stakes on Saturday at Hollywood Park.
Ridden by Alonso Quinonez, Premier Pegasus went straight to the front of the field of six 2-year-olds and never gave up the lead, beating Industry Leader by 1 1/2 lengths for his third victory and covering 7 furlongs in 1:22.78.
Premier Pegasus paid $6, $3.60 and $2.80. Industry Leader returned $3.40 and $2.80. Awesome Patriot paid $3.60 to show.
The favorite, High Level Jeff, never challenged for the lead and finished well back in fifth.
A son of Fusaichi Pegasus trained by Myung Kwon Cho, Premier Pegasus broke his maiden as a 44-1 long shot at Del Mar in July, then won the Jack Goodman Stakes at Hollywood's Oak Tree meeting on Oct. 23.
He earned $60,000 for Saturday's win, taking his career bankroll to $125,400.
Cho said Premier Pegasus may return to run in the $750,000 CashCall Futurity at the same track Dec. 18. The Grade 1 race is considered an early prep for the Kentucky Derby, but Cho said he planned to make Premier Pegasus a turf horse eventually.
``It would be a dream to win that race,'' Cho said. ``I'm not certain yet what I'm going to do.''
