Slip Away wins Colonial Cup, tops earnings list
November 14, 2010CAMDEN, S.C. (AP) -Slip Away did just that Saturday, winning the 41st running of the $100,000 Colonial Cup Steeplechase by a record 25 lengths.
The 7-year-old son of Skip Away romped to victory at the Springdale Race Course in Camden on the final day of the National Steeplechase Association season. The winning margin easily surpassed Hall of Fame jumper Flatterer's 17-length victory in 1986.
Owned by Ken and Sarah Ramsey and trained by Tom Voss, Slip Away completed the 2 3/4-mile, 17-fence circuit in 5:14.80.
The victory gave Slip Away the season earnings title with $191,500 in seven starts.
Preemptive Strike was second, followed by Tax Ruling and 2009 Colonial Cup champion Mixed Up.
