Larry Jones to return to horse training
November 12, 2010HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (AP) -Trainer Larry Jones says he's coming out of self-imposed retirement and will take over the barn that his wife has been running for the past year.
Jones plans to bring a string of horses to Oaklawn Park this month in preparation for the opening of the winter meet on Jan. 14.
In 2008, Jones saddled filly Eight Belles to a second-place finish in the Kentucky Derby before she collapsed past the finish line and had to be euthanized.
Not long after, Jones retired, but he's been present in the operations of wife Cindy's stable in recent months.
Jones says his wife says it's her turn to retire, although he expects her to be around the barn a lot.
