Blame game enough to end Zenyatta's streak
November 7, 2010LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -Jockey Garrett Gomez says any other day and he'd have been rooting for superstar mare Zenyatta to end her career unbeaten.
Yet Gomez wasn't apologizing after spoiling Zenyatta's bid to finish 20-0 with a thrilling victory aboard Blame in the $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic.
Gomez said he was ``proud'' to be on the horse that spoiled Zenyatta's storybook ending. Blame took the lead in the stretch, then held off Zenyatta by a head.
Trainer Al Stall Jr. praised his horse's grit and doesn't think Zenyatta's loss will affect her place in racing history. Seth Hancock, co-breeder of Blame, called Zenyatta ``awesome.''
