Soaring Empire wins Monmouth Park feature
November 7, 2010OCEANPORT, N.J. (AP) -Soaring Empire rallied from last to first in the stretch to win the $70,000 Rutgers Stakes at Monmouth Park on Saturday, beating Wildcat Frankie by three-quarters of a length.
Ridden by Pablo Fragoso and trained by Cam Gambolati, the 3-year-old colt covered the six furlongs on a good track in 1:08 1-5 and paid $8, $4.40 and $2.60. It was the third win in seven career starts for Soaring Empire, who has now earned $128,476.
Wildcat Frankie, who led for most of the race, returned $4.20 and $2.20, while Partyallnightlong was another half-length back in third and paid $2.10.
