Gone Rebel takes Anoakia Stakes at Hollywood Park
October 25, 2010INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) - Gone Rebel held off heavy favorite Tales in Excess from gate to wire to win the $60,080 Anoakia Stakes on Sunday at the Oak Tree meeting at Hollywood Park.
Ridden by Patrick Valenzuela, Gone Rebel went straight to the front of the field of five 2-year-old fillies. She opened a 2 1/2-length lead on Tales in Excess coming into the homestretch and gamely held off a last thrust from the favorite to win by 3/4 of a length, covering six furlongs in 1:10.38.
Gone Rebel paid $7, $3.60 and $2.10. Tales in Excess paid $2.40 and $2.10. Pleasing Sunrise was third and paid $2.10 to show.
Trained by Vladimir Cerin for owners David and Holly Wilson, Gone Rebel easily earned her first victory at Lone Star Park in May, then finished out of the money in the Grade 1 Darley Debutante at Del Mar last month.
Sunday's win was the filly's second in five starts. She earned $34,860 for a career total of $61,500.
Cerin said he is aiming to run Gone Rebel against other Louisiana-breds in the $250,000 Louisiana Jewel at Delta Downs next month.
