Romp wins at Hollywood Park, breaks 13-race skid
October 22, 2010INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) - Romp edged Worth Repeating by a nose and snapped a 13-race losing streak by winning the $44,704 feature at the Oak Tree meet at Hollywood Park on Thursday.
Ridden by Alonso Quinonez, Romp - at 12-1 odds - ran 1 1/4 miles on the synthetic Cushion Track in 2:04.62 and paid $27.40 and $18. The 6-year-old hadn't won since Nov. 27, 2008.
Worth Repeating, who led by 7 lengths with a quarter-mile remaining, returned $10. There was no show wagering because of the four-horse field.
Where's the Remote, the 2-5 favorite, was another 7 1/4 lengths back in third. Falcon Rock finished fourth.
Romp's career earnings rose to $221,463, with four wins in 41 starts. Trainer Kristin Mulhall also won the fifth race.
