Reprized Halo shocks favorite Gourmet Dinner

MIAMI (AP) - Longshot Reprized Halo rallied from last to beat 3-5 favorite Gourmet Dinner by 11/2 lengths Saturday in the $350,000 In Reality Division of the Florida Stallion Stakes at Calder.

The In Reality was the third and final phase of the Open division. Reprized Halo thus prevented a sweep in both divisions in the 29 year history of the Stallion Stakes. Gourmet Dinner had won the first two phases - as Awesome Feather had won the first two races in the filly division. Awesome Feather in contrast to Gourmet Dinner, overpowered her field to win the My Dear Girl Division by 8 1-4 lengths over Lily's Hope, a 41-1 shot, with Beso Grande third.

Awesome Feather is scheduled to make her next start in the $2 milion Juvenile Fillies Breeders" Cup Nov. 5.

Reprized Halo, which went off at 46-1 finished in 1:50.40 and paid 94.60, 16.00 and 7.00. Gourmet Dinner, who hadn't lost before, paid 2.40 and 2.10. Decisive Moment, who finished one length behind the favorite, paid 4.00 to show.

Both Awesome Feather and Gourmet Dinner were making their first starts around two turns in Saturday's 1 1/16 mile events. Awesome Feather had no problems at all and Gourmet Dinner also handled it well. He came from well off the pace to take the lead at the 16th pole but could not hold off Reprized Halo, who made a stunning run toward the inside.
