Wickedly Perfect wins Darley Alcibiades Stakes
October 9, 2010LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Wickedly Perfect earned a spot in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies, winning the $400,000 Darley Alcibiades Stakes on Friday at Keeneland.
The Doug O'Neil-trained filly, ridden by Rafael Bejarano, completed the 1 1-16-mile race in 1:40.14, leading from start to finish and beating Harlan's Ruby by 2 lengths. Wickedly Perfect paid $5, $3.30 and $2.40.
Harlan's Ruby returned $4.80 and $2.80, and Jordy Y paid $3 to show.
The Breeders' Cup is next month at Churchill Downs.
``Breeders' Cup here we come,'' O'Neil said. ``Rafael did such a brilliant job of slowing everybody down and saving enough filly. She's just a quality filly.''
Earlier, Bejarano piloted Wise Dan to a half-length victory in the $175,000 Phoenix Stakes, earning his mount an automatic berth to the Breeders' Cup Sprint.
The winning time was 1:09.20 for 6 furlongs over the Polytrack. Wise Dan paid $15.20, $7, and $4. Hollywood Hit returned $4.20 and $3, and Warrior's Reward paid $2.80 to show.
