Holy upset! The Bat Signal wins at Hollywood Park
October 2, 2010INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) - The Bat Signal defeated Scofield Barracks by 11/4 lengths to win Friday's $50,400 feature in the Oak Tree meet at Hollywood Park.
Johnny Gihua, riding for the last day with his apprentice weight allowance, guided The Bat Signal over 61/2 furlongs in 1:16.11. The 4-year-old gelding, whose sire is named Gotham City, paid $31.40, $9.20 and $4.20 at 14-1 odds.
Scofield Barracks returned $4.20 and $3. Leothelion was another 11/4 lengths back in third and paid $3.60 to show. Inverness Cape, the 4-5 favorite, finished last.
The victory increased The Bat Signal's career earnings to $190,084, with seven wins in 16 starts.
