Poet's Voice wins Queen Elizabeth II Stakes
September 26, 2010ASCOT, England (AP) - Poet's Voice has won the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes to give jockey Frankie Dettori four victories on the day at Ascot.
The Italian rider's feat Saturday came 14 years after his ``magnificent seven'', when he won all seven races at Ascot.
Poet's Voice, the 9-2 third betting choice, emerged from a pack of horses in the stretch and beat Rip Van Winkle by a nose. Red Jazz was third.
Rip Van Winkle was trying to become only the third horse to win the Queen Elizabeth two years in a row.
As the field turned for home, Poet's Voice broke through the pack under a perfectly timed ride and caught Rip Van Winkle just before the finish line.
