Birdrun wins Belmont feature
September 23, 2010NEW YORK (AP) - Birdrun beat Tahitian Warrior, the 1-5 favorite, by one length Wednesday in the $52,000 allowance feature at Belmont Park.
Trained by Hall of Famer Bill Mott, Birdrun set the pace while pressured by Tahitian Warrior who seized the lead turning for home. Birdrun, with Rajiv Maragh aboard, battled back on the rail for his fourth win in 14 starts. The 4-year-old ran the one mile in 1:35.93 as the 4-1 second choice.
Birdrun paid $11.20, $3.20 and $2.40. Tahitian Warrior, the dominant winner of his previous two races, returned $2.10 and $2.10. Seniors Pride paid $4.90 to show.
