Smart Strike colt, filly top market at Keeneland
September 17, 2010LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - A colt and filly by top stallion Smart Strike topped the market Thursday in the Keeneland September Yearling sale.
San Francisco businessman George Bolton bought the Smart Strike filly, the second foal from the stakes-winning Sea of Secrets mare My Miss Storm Cat, for $550,000. Bolton purchased a Smart Strike colt for $1 million on Tuesday.
Zayat Stables paid $550,000 for a colt by Smart Strike out of mare Madame Thor.
A total of 197 horses sold Thursday for $23,234,000, for an average of $117,939 and a median of $100,000.
Keeneland director of sale Geoffrey Russell pointed to the median price and the number of horses sold a ``positive sign'' for the thoroughbred market. The sale runs through Sept. 26.
