Etched wins Monmouth Park feature
September 13, 2010OCEANPORT, N.J. (AP) - Etched pulled away from Chirac in the stretch to win by a length in the $75,000 Formal Gold Stakes at Monmouth Park on Sunday.
Trained by Kiaran McLaughlin and ridden by Alan Garcia, the 5-year-old horse covered the 1 1/16 miles over a sloppy track in 1:45 and returned $3.20 and $2.10. There was no show betting in the four-horse race.
Chirac easily held on for second, beating Sir Whimsey by 5 1/4 lengths. Secret Getaway was another 4 1/4 lengths back in fourth. Chirac returned $2.60.
Etched, who last raced in November, won for the sixth time in eight career starts and boosted his earnings to $407,586.
