Meese Rocks, Hilda's Passion win at Saratoga
August 24, 2010SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) - Meese Rocks and Hilda's Passion easily won co-featured $70,000 stakes races for fillies and mares at Saratoga Race Course on Monday.
Meese Rocks, ridden by Jorge Chavez and trained by Eddie Barker, prevailed in a prolonged three-horse battle for the lead and won the 6-furlong Union Avenue by 6 1/4 lengths in 1:11.46. Meese Rocks paid $8.80, $4.20 and $2.90. Gold for the Queen paid $5.80 and 3.60, and City Broad paid $2.60.
Meese Rocks earned $42,000 for Jamie and Henry Terranova.
Hilda's Passion, ridden by Javier Castellano, won the 5 1/2 furlong Bennington, which was moved to a main track because of the wet conditions, by 8 3/4 lengths to earn $42,000 for the Starlight Partners.
The Todd Pletcher-trained 3-year-old covered the distance in 1:03.94 and paid $8.80, $5.10 and $4. Malibu Moon Dance paid $5.70 and $4.70 and Decelerator returned $6.30 to show.
