Love That Dance wins Monmouth feature
August 23, 2010OCEANPORT, N.J. (AP) - Love That Dance ran past All Giving in the stretch to win the $100,000 Trenton Stakes by 1 1/2 lengths at Monmouth Park on Sunday.
Trained by Ben Perkins Jr. and ridden by Elvis Trujillo, the 4-year-old filly covered six furlongs over a sloppy track in 1:09 4/5 and returned $26, $12.80 and $6.40. It was the sixth win in 20 starts for Love That Dance, who has now earned $346,794.
In the co-feature, Hop Skip and Away rallied from last to beat Unwritten by a length in the $100,000 Colts Neck Handicap.
Ridden by Pedro Cotto Jr. and trained by Joe Pierce Jr., the 5-year-old gelding ran six furlongs over a muddy track in 1:10 2/5 and returned $23.80, $5.20 and $3.40. It was the sixth career win for Hop Skip and Away, who boosted his earnings to $353,233.
