Racing Hall honors jockeys, champions, trainer

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) - The latest class of honorees has been inducted into the National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame in Saratoga Springs.

Jockeys Randy Romero and Don Pierce, champion horses Point Given, Azeri and Best Pal, the late California-based trainer Michael Ernest ``Buster'' Millerick and Harry Bassett, a 19th century champion horse, were honored Friday in a ceremony at the Fasig-Tipton sales pavilion.

Romero was the regular rider of Go for Wand and the undefeated Personal Ensign. He won Breeders' Cup races on both. Point Given dominated the 2001 season, winning Horse of the Year. Azeri was Horse of the Year in 2002. Best Pal had a six-year career that included finishing second in the 1991 Kentucky Derby.

Millerick, Pierce and Harry Bassett were chosen for induction by the Historic Review Committee.
