California board to review Santa Anita repairs
August 9, 2010ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) - The California Horse Racing Board has assigned an engineering expert to review repairs of Santa Anita's synthetic track, which has drainage problems.
The board asked Dr. Michael Peterson, an engineering professor at the University of Maine, to inspect the track this week as part of its responsibility to inspect and evaluate the state's tracks for safety.
Peterson is widely regarded as an expert on synthetic racing surfaces. He will be joined for the inspection by CHRB executive director Kirk Breed.
The racing board has been monitoring developments at Santa Anita during the drainage repairs, along with the Thoroughbred Owners of California and the California Thoroughbred Trainers.
