Jockey Talamo breaks wrist at Del Mar
August 6, 2010DEL MAR, Calif. (AP) - Jockey Joe Talamo broke his left wrist after he was unseated when his mount fell at Del Mar.
The accident occurred in Thursday's third race at the seaside track.
Talamo was aboard Rockstar Ben, who fell after breaking his right foreleg in midstretch during the one-mile turf race.
X-rays confirmed Talamo's injury, which will sideline him until Santa Anita opens on Sept. 29. He was tied for third in the jockeys' standings going into Thursday's card.
Rockstar Ben's injury was catastrophic, and the 3-year-old gelding was euthanized.
In the $54,000 feature, Quick Enough wore down Winter Camp in the final sixteenth of a mile to win by three-quarters of a length.
Ridden by David Flores, Quick Enough ran five furlongs on the turf in 55.45 seconds and paid $7.60, $4.20 and $3.40.
Winter Camp returned $8.80 and $6.60. Square Deal was another neck back in third and paid $6.40 to show.
