Dakota Phone wins at Del Mar
August 1, 2010DEL MAR, Calif. (AP) - Dakota Phone rallied to snap a 16-race losing streak, beating Battle of Hastings by a half-length Saturday in the $200,000 San Diego Handicap at Del Mar.
Ridden by Joel Rosario, Dakota Phone ran 1 1-16 miles in 1:43.55 and paid $11.40, $5.20 and $3.60. Battle of Hastings returned $4.80 and $4.20, and Enriched paid $4.60 to show.
Dakota Phone hadn't won since taking the Forty Niner Stakes at Golden Gate Fields in Northern California in November 2008.
The victory, worth $120,000, increased Dakota Phone's career earnings to $583,810, with five wins in 29 starts.
In the co-featured $100,000 Fleet Treat Stakes for 3-year-old California-bred fillies, La Nez rallied from last to win by a half-length.
La Nez and Victor Espinoza covered seven furlongs in 1:23.45 and paid $14.40, $6.50 and $5.20. Thisoneforyou returned $6.20, and Tornado Betty paid $11.40.
La Nez earned $60,000 for her third win in 11 career starts.
