Skipshot wins Swaps Stakes at Hollywood Park
July 18, 2010INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) -Skipshot wore down Sidney's Candy in the final strides to win the $200,000 Swaps Stakes on Saturday at Hollywood Park.
Under Joel Rosario, Skipshot ran the 1 1/8 miles in 1:49.94, winning by a head and paying $10.20 and $2.60. Sidney's Candy, with Joe Talamo in the saddle, returned $2.10 to place, and Summer Movie finished third.
With the victory, Skipshopt increased his earnings to $213,030.
In the day's other Grade II race, Sweet August Moon took opening along the rail approaching the stretch and beat Free Flying Soul by 1 3/4 lengths in the $150,000 A Gleam Handicap.
Sweet August Moon, under Victor Espinoza, ran the seven furlongs in 1:21.77. She paid $28.20, $6.60 and $4.80. Free Flying Soul paid $2.80 and $2.20. The show price on Will O Way was $5.
The victory was the sixth in 16 starts for the Pennsylvania-bred Sweet August Moon. She has earned $336,396.
