Prominent sire Dixie Union euthanized

VERSAILLES, Ky. (AP) -Former Haskell Invitational winner Dixie Union was euthanized Wednesday due to a deteriorating neurologic problem.

Lane's End Farm says the 13-year-old stallion, who was standing at stud at the central Kentucky farm, was put down at Rood and Riddle Equine.

Dixie Union won seven of 12 starts during his career for owners Herman Sarkowsky and Gerald Ford, including the Haskell Invitational and Malibu Stakes.

He went on to a successful stallion career, siring 34 stakes winners, including Hot Dixie Chick, winner of the 2009 Spinaway Stakes.
