General Perfect wins Monmouth feature
July 12, 2010OCEANPORT, N.J. (AP) -General Perfect earned a wire-to-wire win Sunday in the $100,000 John McSorley Stakes at Monmouth Park, beating Silver Timber by 1 1/2 lengths.
Trained by Frank Costa and ridden by Pablo Fragoso, the 7-year-old gelding covered the 5 1/2 furlongs over a firm turf course in 1:01 2/5 and returned $25, $5.40 and $3.20.
It was the ninth win in 34 career starts for General Perfect, who has now earned $381,709.
In the co-feature, Moneigh Lisa overtook pacesetter Love That Dance near the top of the stretch and drew off to win the $100,000 Spruce Fir Handicap by 2 3/4 lengths.
Ridden by Jose Lezcano and trained by Jane Cibelli, the 4-year-old filly ran the mile and 70 yards over a fast track in 1:42 and paid $32.80, $12.40 and $4.60.
