Jockey Eibar Coa wins his 4,000th race
July 10, 2010OCEANPORT, N.J. (AP) -Jockey Eibar Coa reached a career milestone Friday, riding his 4,000th winner.
The 39-year-old Coa won aboard Maddy's Crowd in the ninth race at Monmouth Park.
A native of Monagas, Venezuela, Coa began riding in his native country before moving to the United States in 1993. He won riding titles at Monmouth Park in 2001 and '02, and said he was happy to reach the milestone at the track he calls ``a special place.''
In addition to the riding titles at Monmouth, Coa has been top jockey at Aqueduct, Belmont, Calder and Gulfstream Park.
