Rightly So wins Belmont's Bed o' Roses
July 6, 2010NEW YORK (AP) -Rightly So got her first win of the season after three near-misses, holding off Qualia by a head Monday in the $150,000 Bed o' Roses Handicap for fillies and mares at Belmont Park.
A 4-year-old trained by Tony Dutrow, Rightly So had suffered three stakes loses by a total of 1 1/4 lengths. She finally turned the tables with a bold display of speed on a hot afternoon. Cornelio Velasquez guided Rightly So immediately to the front with Qualia, the even-money favorite who had won three in a row, tracking in second.
Qualia pushed hard in the final 100 yards but could not get by.
Rightly So improved to 6 for 10, paying $9.40, $3.70 and $2.80 as the 7-2 second choice. Qualia returned $3 and $2.40. McVictory paid $3.20 to show.
The time was 1:22.44 for the seven furlongs.
