Jockey Arroyo Jr. gets prison in NY cocaine case
July 4, 2010BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. (AP) -Jockey Norberto Arroyo Jr. has been sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison in a cocaine-possession case that unfolded a few blocks from New York's Saratoga Race Course.
The 33-year-old Arroyo was in the Saratoga County jail Saturday, awaiting transfer to the state prison system. He was sentenced Friday.
He pleaded guilty in March to a drug-possession charge. It stems from a traffic stop last August near the race course. He'd been riding at Saratoga during its six-week racing season.
Police said they found about 12 grams of cocaine stuffed in his sock.
The New York State Racing and Wagering Board suspended Arroyo's racing license after the arrest.
