Chinchon wins UN Stakes at Monmouth

OCEANPORT, N.J. (AP) -Chinchon came flying through the lane to beat Take the Points by 1 1/2 lengths in the $750,000 United Nations Stakes on the turf Saturday at Monmouth Park.

Chinchon ran the 1 3-8 miles in 2:11.77 on the firm course. Garrett Gomez was aboard for trainer Carlos Laffon-Parias as Chinchon improved to 4 for 19. The 5-year-old bred in Ireland has raced primarily in France.

Chinchon paid $9.60, $4.80 and $3.40. Take the Points returned $3.80 and $2.80. Winchester earned $2.80 to show.

This was Chinchon's second trip to the U.S., having run fourth last summer in the Man O' War Stakes at Belmont Park. This was a more successful journey as he surged from the back of the pack to beat a high-quality field that included five Grade 1 winners.
