9 entered for United Nations Handicap on Saturday
July 1, 2010OCEANPORT, N.J. (AP) -Winchester could be the horse to beat in a field of nine entered for the $750,000 United Nations Handicap at Monmouth Park.
The 5-year-old horse comes into Saturday's 1 3/8-mile turf race off a victory in the Manhattan Handicap at Belmont Park on June 5.
Three other Grade 1 stakes winners were entered Wednesday: Charles Whittingham winner Acclamation, Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap winner Take the Points and 2009 Sword Dancer winner Telling.
Also entered are Get Serious, Straight Story, Brazil-bred Jeune-Turc, Ireland-bred Chinchon and Lureate.
Winchester upset stablemate Gio Ponti by a half length in the Manhattan at odds of 21-1. The horse is trained by Christophe Clement and will be ridden by Cornelio Velasquez.
