Get Serious wins Monmouth Park feature
June 13, 2010OCEANPORT, N.J. (AP) -Get Serious took the early lead and held off a late rally by Roman Tiger to win the $250,000 Monmouth Stakes by 1 1/4 lengths at Monmouth Park on Saturday.
Trained by John Forbes and ridden by Pablo Fragoso, the 6-year-old gelding covered the covered the 1 1-8 miles on turf in 1:47 to win the Grade 3 race.
Get Serious - who won for the 11th time in 27 career starts and boosted his earnings to $740,691 - paid $16, $8.60 and $5.80. Roman Tiger returned $20.20 and $9.60, while Dynamoor was two lengths back in third and paid $5.
In the co-feature, Cool Coal Man took the lead as the field of five headed for home beat Sir Whimsey by two lengths in the $100,000 Skip Away Stakes.
Ridden by Elvis Trujillo and trained by Nicholas Zito, Cool Coal Man raced the 1 1-16 miles in 1:43 4/5 and returned $4.60, $3 and $2.10. Sir Whimsey paid $7.80 and $3.60, while Gone Astray was 3 3/4 lengths back in third and paid $2.60.
Cool Coal Man won for the 10th time in 26 career starts and increased his career earnings to $777,328.
