Churchill Downs to host 2011 Breeders' Cup

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -The Breeders' Cup has awarded its 2011 season-ending, two-day event to Churchill Downs, giving the track the event for a second straight year.

The announcement was made at the home of the Kentucky Derby on Friday by Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear.

This is the second time the Breeders' Cup will be held at the same track two straight years. Santa Anita in California was the host in 2008 and 2009.

The Breeders' Cup is one of racing's richest events, with a purse of more than $26 million.

This year's Breeders' Cup is Nov. 5-6. The dates for the 2011 event are Nov. 4-5.
