EPSOM, England (AP) -Workforce overtook pacemaker At First Sight to win the English Derby in a record time by seven lengths in only his third race on Saturday.

Workforce gave trainer Michael Stoute his fifth win.

A huge upset appeared likely when At First Sight led by 10 lengths halfway down the final straight. The 100-1 outsider in the race was supposed to set a fast pace for Aidan O'Brien's leading contenders.

But jockey Ryan Moore got 6-1 shot Workforce to quicken and win his first Derby in 2 minutes 31.33 seconds over 1 1/2 miles, almost a second faster than Lammtarra.

``He had a really clean run, I was happy where I was in the race,'' said Moore, who also won Friday's fillies classic, the Oaks, on Snow Fairy. ``We got a dream run and he quickened really well. The ground was fast enough for him, but he's a really good horse and I'm delighted with that.

``This is the most important race to me, it's great to ride for the boss (Stoute) and (owner) Prince Khalid (Abdullah). It's a really good day.''

Rewilding, with Frankie Dettori aboard, finished third. Jan Vermeer, the 9-4 favorite trained by O'Brien, was fourth.

``Jan Vermeer lost both his front shoes, but the second horse (At First Sight) stays really well,'' O'Brien said. ``The winner looked exceptional.''
